On February 4, the presentation “The Legacy of Hairy Grenache” took place, one of the outstanding activities of Barcelona Wine Week 2025.
Vinyes Domènech, together with a group of experts in the sector, offered an in-depth insight into one of the most unique and resilient varieties to climate change: Garnatxa Peluda.
The presentation program focused on the following points:
1. Tasting of five exceptional vintages of Teixar, Qualified Estate Wine, by Ferran Centelles (DIPWSET). This tasting was the driving force that brought us closer to the Tarragona origin of Garnatxa Peluda.
2. Joan Ignasi Domènech explained the recovery of old Garnatxa Peluda vineyards as a legacy for new plantings and learned about the geographical distribution of the planted area by age and altitude.
3. Studies on the resilience of Grenache Peluda to climate change, presented by Xoán Elorduy (Head of the Viticulture, Enology and Ampelography Service at INCAVI).
4. Perception from the United States and proposals to improve knowledge and dissemination, with the participation of Rick Fisher (Wine Scholar Guild, Oregon-USA).
It was an excellent opportunity to learn more about this variety, its future in a changing climate context and share perspectives with professionals from around the world.
