A WHOLE WORLD BEHIND A BOTTLE
“Each bottle of wine transports you to the landscape, the sun, the vineyard, an ancestral variety and the values of this land and our people”

commitment to the land

Founded in 2002 by the Domenech-Nogueroles family with the aim of conserving and improving the estate’s natural heritage, creating a wine project that expresses the landscape and biodiversity of the environment, becoming a unique ecosystem.

In 2015, the result of all this work was consolidated to receive the recognition of “Qualified Estate Wine” by Incavi and the DO Montsant.

It is a recognition that distinguishes the unique and climatic characteristics of the vineyard, the wines from grapes from the same property with lower yields and that have the most demanding protocols and scores from the DO, as well as national and international prestige over more than ten years.

In June 2019, the DO Montsant awarded us the award for the best VINEYARD-WINE GROWER 2019 , which distinguishes our work and contribution.

THE TERROIR

Unique and high-altitude vineyards

Vinyes Domènech is located in a protected natural area of great beauty, between the Serra de Llaberia and Montalt in the south of Priorat and within the DO Montsant.

Over the years we have incorporated vineyards from the best places in the DO Montsant (Capçanes, La Figuera, El Masroig,…) always looking for the highest areas, old vineyards and soils that give it personality and typicality.

in each wine. In short, unique vineyards with very little production where the Grenache and Carignan give us maximum expression.

A mosaic of typicality

The dominant geological materials are Limestone and Dolomite with layers of gypsum, marl and clay that appear in the different vineyards. The soils are found on mountainous slopes ranging from 10-35% steep slopes, the Costers, which are mainly oriented north-south.

Valley Fund

It is found in the vineyards of the Sierra de Llaberia and is formed from eroded material mainly of clay from the mountain slopes accumulated at the bottom of the valley, they are deeper soils.

Stony Limestone

limestone above the clays and very shallow.

Loess soil

This soil is located in the areas of Mirador and La Fou. Developed during the Aeolian period, it was deposited on clay after periods of thaw. These materials of marine origin are extremely calcareous and have accumulated carbonates known as “loess dolls” of orange or salmon color.

Clay-Calcium

This soil is found in Montalt and Serra Llaberia developed on clay and chalk from the Keuper period (Triassic). These geological materials are rich in clay and are found mainly on the sloping slopes facing east. The soil is bright red and rich in iron.

At the Collet estate we have one of the oldest Garnatxa Peluda vineyards in Catalonia and we are pioneers in the production of single-varietal wines.

At Vinyes Domènech you can discover and enjoy the different local varieties in the more than 90 Microparcels that in small winemakings we bottle without masking their origin and landscape. Our commitment from the beginning has been to work and recover the original varieties of our area such as Grenache, Carignan and Macabeo. At the Collet estate we have one of the oldest vineyards of Garnacha Peluda in Catalonia and we are pioneers in the production of single-varietal wines of this variety.

In Vinyes Domènech you will find the different mutations of Grenache: Blanca, Roja or Gris, Negra and Peluda. On the Mas d’en Tost estate are the old Carignan vineyards, where the red clay soil gives us small and concentrated grapes that allow our Carignan to express itself with elegant tannins while preserving its wild character. On the Guiamets and El Masroig estates we have two plots of old Macabeu vineyards, also on red clay soils that retain water and give us a voluminous Macabeu

ECOLOGY

AGRICULTURE ECOLOGICAL and biodynamic

Vinyes Domènech’s biodynamic practices prioritize the basic principles that operate in nature, and keep them in mind to provide balance and help the health of the plant.

Vinyes Domènech’s biodynamic practices prioritize the basic principles that operate in nature, and keep them in mind to provide balance and help the health of the plant. It is truly a way of open knowledge, rather than a set of closed methods and techniques. Plants receive influences that come from the earth and the energies of the universe and that mark their vital rhythms.

Everything we feed it in the form of manure, compost, remains, weeds, leaves, roots, etc., it incorporates into its body so that, after a few months, it disappears to integrate with the earth, enriching itself in humus and making it more fertile. Compost is very important for the vineyard. We must vivify the earth revitalize the soil by providing good quality and stable organic matter. to balance the development of the vineyard. Certified in organic viticulture by the CCPAE-2007.

biodiversity

Our differential value is to take advantage of the biodiversity provided by the forests that surround our vineyards, considering it an interactive ecosystem that offers protection and balance to flora, fauna and microorganisms. It is a unique and different process that can only be enjoyed in a natural environment of great biological diversity. You will feel that the nature and landscape that surround our vineyards will captivate you and you will understand the essence of our wines.

BOTANY

We take care of the Earth from its roots, restoring a lost connection between people and nature, starting with the knowledge of its plants.

We take care of the Earth from its roots, restoring a lost connection between people and nature, starting with the knowledge of its plants. Botany, among others, is an indicator of the state of the soil and the balance of its habitat. Through its knowledge we can interpret its deficiencies. The diversity of wild plants that grow in our vineyards such as marigold, dandelion, thyme, rosemary, St. George’s herb, mallow, chamomile provide beneficial aspects for the health of the vines in addition to recovering the genuine wild aromas, which is why we are known as the winery of botanical wines.

This diversity of flora helps us with: Nutrition and the desired texture in the soil. Making preparations and infusions as part of the vineyard’s phytotherapy. Its flowers attract beneficial insects that eat pests.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability at Vinyes Domènech is a circular project in which each process and scenario is designed with the aim of reducing the consumption of natural resources and the emission of greenhouse gases.

The location of Domenech vineyards will fascinate you with the harmony of its landscape that will immerse you in a state of emotional balance. It is an amphitheater surrounded by forest that is located at an altitude of between 300m and 500m. Its unique landscape forms a natural passage of about 10km between the interior of the Priorat region and the Mediterranean Sea. The irregular orography of strong differences in elevation gives our vineyards a coastal and mountainous microclimate unique to the area, which forges an idyllic landscape of great beauty and richness of flora and fauna.
